Your Baby and the Laundry Allergy
Did you know that you have to be extra careful when it comes to doing baby’s laundry? Don’t just shove it in with yours. If you regularly use perfumed detergents, bleach, or fabric softener, your laundering habits may need a bit of change when it comes to the precious little one.
Now comes the time when you will be washing clothing for more than just to remove the smell. Your baby will cause no end to the laundry pile and you might as well come to the realization that you will doing laundry daily.
And because your baby’s skin is so much more sensitive that an adults and even a childs laundering the baby's clothing in detergents that are free of perfumes and dyes is a must. It is also the way to help ensure that your baby does not get rashes and irritations from the various laundry detergent chemicals.
Blessedly there are detergents formulated specifically for baby laundry. But in case you don’t want to have special laundry detergent for baby and special laundry detergent for the rest of the family as long as you stay away from perfume and dye heavy products, your baby should be just fine.
Sometimes even after all this there are rare cases in which the baby has specific allergies and even the baby laundry detergent won’t fit the bill. Unfortunately for your baby, this may mean a short trial and error process. As you would with food allergies, just keep an eye out and make sure you seek immediate medical treatment when you are concerned about anything.
Also if your baby wears cloth diapers be sure to launder them separately from the every day clothing. For obvious reasons your baby’s cloth diapers need a little extra attention to get fully clean. A soak and then a wash is always a good idea. Your baby’s diapers are also the closest thing to their skin and making sure they are as free from residue as possible is important.
As your baby grows and you buy new clothing be sure and wash it all before putting it on your baby. New and even used clothing can carry chemical residues that you want to wash off before putting on the delicate skin of your baby.
These first few months of doing your baby’s laundry are crucial in determining what kind of laundering ritual is best for your new addition. Be sure that no matter how you launder your baby's clothing, you keep a good eye out for possible allergic reactions and rashes. A comfortable baby is a much happier baby.
