The basics for bottle feeding your baby. If you find that for one reason or another you will be bottle feeding your work with your doctor to find the right formula for your baby. We found as foster parents that different babies tolerated different formulas. Formula is very expensive and nobody wants to see it go to waste. Next you’ll want to get your bottle stash together. With the recent concerns over Bisphenol A you may want to purchase bottles without this chemical in them. BabyEarth.com For baby bottles a good number to start with is about five. In the begging you will have to wash mid day to continue feeding your growing baby but as they grow older 5 bottles will suffice for the day meaning a wash each night for the next day. Next you will want to have a supply of baby bottle nipples. You’ll have a bit of a choice here too. It’s very nice that when you buy nipples they are marked for what age the baby is. Small newborns get a tiny whole so they don’t get too much in their mouths. Then would you like silicone or latex? Silicone can cost more but they last longer. The latex will start to crack and break down. When you feed your baby you will want to warm the formula a bit mimicking mother’s milk. Please do this in a baby bottle warmer or a bowl of hot water. The microwave is not recommended for this. Baby formula heats very quickly in very warm water so the microwave is not necessary. When feeding your baby hold him or her close to you. Break away about halfway through the feeding to sit your baby up for a burp. This is nice for the digestion. If you are unable to wash the bottle directly after feeding. Rinse well and place aside to wash. |
