Choosing a Glider for Your Baby’s Nursery

It’s actually not one of the first pieces of furniture you think about when outfitting your baby’s nursery but after you have sat in one you will have a hard time imagining how you could get along without one.

What am I talking about? A glider. Perfect for rocking, soothing, and resting both mommy and baby these pieces of furniture are top on my list of must haves for the coming baby.

But which one do you pick? Well it’s always good if you can sit in one to decide what may be best for you and your family but if you can’t here are some things to keep some things in mind.

Gliders are the modern take on the rocking chair. When you imagine comforting a baby a rocking motion always comes to mind so why not a chair to help you when you need to sit and take a load off. Some of the cons of rocking chairs were that some people may feel unbalanced and prone to knocking over backwards in them. Also that the rockers on the bottom can be a bit of a hazard for inquisitive little fingers. And finally coming without a cushion on seat or back they can be most uncomfortable for a tired mama.

Gliders to the rescue. With padded cushions on the seat and the back and hopefully on the arms they are cushy enough for a tired parent. The gliding motion keeps the chair fully on the ground so you don’t feel as though you will tip over.

And even though the gliding motion is a little bit less of a hazard for tiny fingers seeking new things you can have an even safer addition if you opt for one that has a side panel covering the workings of the glider. And even a few years later there is an ultra deluxe model combines recliner, rocker, glider in one chair and fully encases it in very cushy upholstery. And maybe even with a little swivel on top. These chairs usually start at double the cost of a regular glider. If you have the funds and the room, as these may take up more space a rocker, glider is a nice touch.

So where do you buy a glider for your nursery?

You local baby store probably has several in stock. But say your local baby store isn’t so local. Then you can always buy online. Check the return policy if you tend to be picky.

Budget minded shoppers can find good quality gliders at places like Target, CSN baby, and Amazon.

If you have a more money to spend Pottery Barn Kids, Land of Nod and Dimples and Dandelions
