Baby's Daily Schedule
One thing you know is that when your little peanut comes home from the hospital they DO NOT sleep on your schedule. They sleep throughout the day at periodic points and then they want to be awake all night!
You see babies are used to being lulled to sleep inside of mom’s tummy while she is active during they day and then bouncing around while mommy is trying to sleep at night. Remember? This all ends when they are born but they are still used to schedule.
Well take heart mom it does not last forever.
First of all get some sleep. That is when baby gets their sleep. Keep daytime activity to a minimum and do your best to catch some zzzz’s when your baby nods off. At night when baby is up every few hours for a feeding or change you’ll be tired yes but if you know the next day’s activities are few then you can handle it better. This means the home will be less that spotless. Someone else may be providing meals. And laundry could pile up a bit. It’s okay. It doesn’t last forever. Get rest when you can and take care of yourself nutritionally.
Next figure out your baby’s schedule so you know the best times in the day to get things done.
Baby usually has a daily pattern of three basic things.
- Sleep
- Eat
- Play
And then start all over again. As mom you will quickly be able to read the signs of when your baby is ready to move on to the next activity (eating, sleeping and playing that is). Things could change. As baby grows they start to realize that certain things happen at certain time so they might adjust their behavior a bit to make sure they are awake (or asleep) for the time in question.
One of the most important parts of your baby's daily schedule, for you mom, and baby is the bedtime routine. Make a written record of this not only for yourself but also for others who may be caring for your baby at times.
And take heart mom. This doesn’t last forever.
