An Organized Baby Shower
Putting together a baby shower? Considered more fun than a typical bridal showers baby showers are almost a necessity to help new parents get a leg up acquiring baby's many needs.
Here are some tips to organizing a baby shower and making it fun for all guests.
- First of all it is considered in bad taste for the pregnant mother or any of her near relatives to throw the baby shower. If you fall into this category ask a close friend to throw the shower instead.
- Second remember that the baby shower is for adults. It is a good idea to keep that in mind when planning games. These are not children so a little challenge thrown in is nice.
- If the baby's gender is known pass this information on to the guests. Yellow and pale green are common baby gender neutral colors. Or light tan.
- Use baby items to decorate the baby shower. These are then presented to the expectant mother or couple at the end of the baby shower. If you put them in a nice big basket that is a nice touch.
- Send out darling baby invitations 2 weeks in advance to give people time to shop. You will want to plan the baby shower for about the 7th to 8th month of mom's pregnancy. This gives her time to acquire things still needed and just in case the birth is a bit early.
- Popular Diaper Cakes, are also practical because they are made from cloth diapers and decorated with baby accessories. These items will become well used once the baby is born.
- Make sure to include the father in the baby shower. Some men turn their noses up at the word “baby shower” but since a baby shower can be fun, educational, and challenging they may find themselves having a great time. If you do get the father to be part of the shower be sure to invite other males so he is not left out.
- Don’t overwhelm your baby shower guests with games. More than five baby shower games might be overkill. Remember these are not children who need you to direct their day.
Some ideas for other shower activities can be to let the guests mingle with each other and the guest of honor.
Have an activity where the guests each write out a lovely piece of baby wisdom on decorative cards to give the mom-to-be. She can read them aloud once they are done and keep them in a decorative tin for future reminiscing.
Have a bulletin board of baby pictures from the guests. See who can guess which baby picture goes to which guest.
Scrap the shower. You'll need access to a digital camera and printer for this but if you've got it use it to make a memorable baby shower scrapbook.
Some fun baby shower games include...
Word scramble: Scramble up words of baby items and give your guests a few minutes to figure out what they are. Make them hard words too. Don’t let them off easy with words such as crib or bottle.
Guess the baby accessory: Find some not so common baby items and have people guess what they are used for.
Ask questions from common childhood stories: Such as “What was the second pig’s house made out of in the Three Little Pigs?” or “Who were the three lazy characters in The Little Red Hen?”.
