Bringing Baby Home from the Hospital. Your Newborn Baby’s Needs.

If you have a newborn baby on the way, then most certainly you have thought about the things that you are going to need for the first few weeks.  Still it is important that you know a few things that you are going to need for your newborn when they arrive.  The following list will help you to be prepared when you new bundle arrives. While we can’t think of everything we do our best to cover the basics.

When you are ready to bring your new baby into the world it helps to have a few things already purchased and prepared.

Print out this simple checklist so you know that you are ready for the big day. There are also a few blanks at the end of each section for things I may have missed.

Clothing:Your baby will have clothing needs. Although the first few weeks are mostly spent in baby sleepwear attire there are various levels to allow for comfort and for easy changing of diapers. Plan on a few changes per day.

  • 3 to 4 cotton pyjamas with feet
  • 2 to 3 long nighties
  • 3 to 4 pairs of booties and socks
  • If winter you will need hats, mittens
  • If summer a sun hat

Bath and Care: Baby’s are so sweet and lovely smelling but they still need a touchup or two. Baths are few and very quick but here are something to keep baby’s bodycare under control.

  • Diapers and wipes (whether cloth or disposable)
  • Chaning pad and or table
  • Baby bath and lotion
  • Nail clippers
  • Diaper cream
  • Baby haibrush
  • Baby towels and wash cloth
  • Q-tips

  • Baby bathtub

Baby Feeding: Even if you breastfeed your baby your baby will need bottles. Sometimes daddy takes on a night feeding or what have you. You will need several bottles also. It’s nice to buy a newborn pack. Burp cloths will keep your clothes pristine when baby decides lunch was too much.

  • Bottles appropriate supplies
  • Breast pump and supplies
  • Formula if formula feeding
  • Burp pads
  • Breastfeeding pillow if breastfeeding

Sleep: Is baby sleeping in your room or theirs? For safety and sanity there are few needs for baby’s sleeptime too.

  • Crib or bassinet
  • Mattress
  • Sheets
  • Night light
  • Baby Monitor
  • Soothing night music

Travel: Baby will undoubtedly going out after a few days. If you plan on wearing baby you can probably get by without a stroller. After a while baby gets heavy and a stroller is a life saver.  Especially during naps.
