Your Baby and the Common Cold

It’s inevitable. Sometime in your child’s life they will catch a cold. If they catch while an infant there are plenty of things you can do to make the cold symptoms easier to bear.

Plenty of rest and fluids are the best things you can do for baby but there are a couple things to help make the time easier to bear.

Use a humidifier in baby’s room to help loosen mucus and open nasal passages. If you don’t have a humidifier spend some time in the closed bathroom with a warm shower running.

Elevate your baby’s head during sleep and naptime. If you don’t have a baby wedge pillow for this then elevate the whole mattress by adding a rolled up towel under the head.

Use a syringe to suck excess mucus from baby’s nostrils. Be gentle. Add a few drops of water to baby’s nose to loosen mucus first.

With all the new regulations check with your doctor if there is any safe medication for reducing a fever or if it’s best to continue with the natural route.

Curb all activities until baby gets better. Cancel outing. Keep baby indoors and getting some rest.

Unless your baby’s cough is dry, or making it hard to breathe or sleep it’s doing it’s job to help rid your baby’s body of mucus.

Call Your Doctor if...
