Helping Your Newborn Baby Sleep Through the Night
When your newborn baby first comes home one of the biggest issues will be getting your baby to sleep through the night. Those little bodies need nutrition every few hours and that means round the clock feedings and little sleep for you. But there are ways to manage and organize your schedule and put your new baby into a routine that makes those nightime feedings a lot easier.
The most important part of your baby’s schedule is to get them to realize that nighttime is the time to sleep. Start early and daily routine for baby where they can tell the difference between day and night.
Keep to a schedule: Put baby to bed at the same time every night. You might think your baby doesn’t notice but they do. Set a bed time for baby right off the bat. Your newborn is going to wake up early in the morning. Putting them on a schedule from the beginning will make sure they get their sleep and night and be in a better mood the next day.
Keep nighttime feedings calm: Your baby should only be waking through the night to feed or to have a diaper change. It’s not a time to play and read and have a rousing good time. Keep the room dim, the conversation limited so baby will have an easier time going back to sleep.
Set the stage: Keep baby’s room warm. Baby’s should not sleep with an arsenal of blankets and pillows. There are baby sleepers to help keep the body temperature warm at night and in addition make sure the room is not drafty. Use blackout liners on the windows for night time sleep and let the daylight in during daytime naptimes.
Soon your newborn baby will get the idea and sleeping through the night will be a breeze.
